ANNUAL SPORTS MEET : OOMPH SMACK 2016 – 17 Narayana Schools

17th of September 2016: Sports Day brings new energy in the hearts and minds of the children. This day is marked with great joy and discovering the inner talent of a child in the field of sports.

Though the schools were divided into 4 zones and we had separate teachers’ in-charge for the various events that were to be conducted, still we were all very much nervous! Keeping our fingers crossed, hoping for the best to happen. The weather was not so pleasant, yet we decided to start off with the show. The program had started on time. On the Dias, we had our honorable chief guest “Mr.John Gloster- Chief Quality Officer; KOOH Sports”, our guest of honor “Mr.Shihan Hussaini- Mind Coach”, our Executive Director “Mr.Puneet Kothapa”, our Head of Operations “Dr.Pavan Samba” and our guides and mentors DGM “Mrs.Pushpalatha” and our Executive Dean “Mrs.Samyuktha”. Then we had the lighting of the lamp ceremony which was carried out by the dignitaries on the dais.

At Narayana a day never starts without a prayer, so we had our sweet little students sing a prayer song to invoke the blessings of lord Almighty. We all felt that God had listened to their sweet voices and innocent prayers and he blessed us with a great day ahead. Within no time, the weather turned out to be really good; neither hot, nor cold. It was perfect for the children to portray their blazing performances.

Next we had the welcome address by Mrs.Sapna Sankhla (Principal- Poonamallee branch). Followed by which we had our Head of Operations- Dr.Pavan Samba list out the achievements of Narayana group of Schools, Chennai for the academic year 2015-2016. The next event was National flag hoisting and unfurling of the School flag which was carried out by the dignitaries.

Great events like this remains incomplete without the March Past! We had our students from all 15 schools perform the March Past. In the March Past, we had our head boy Suraj Kiran and head girl Pradeepa leading the entire team. The team had been divided into 4 houses (Agni, Prithvi, Nag & Thrishul). They were named after the 4 advanced missiles which were under the project conceived by Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam. Each of these missiles are specially designed for specific targets, similarly we have our unique set of students with extraordinary abilities under each of these houses.

The children were informed that their performances were going to be assessed, which added more spice to the event! The children gave a really tough task for the chief guests to decide which house was the best. Followed by the March Past, we had the lighting of the torch ceremony. This ceremony was carried out by state and national level sports champions from all our 15 schools in Chennai. Then we had our sports secretary read out the oath and which was taken up by all the 4 house captains. Our chief guests declared the sports meet open which was followed by rising of the balloons and releasing of pigeons.

Before starting with the program, we had both our chief guests willingly share a few interesting and motivational messages with all our students. Especially our guest of honour Mr.Shihan Hussaini gave a power packed speech and he created a lot of excitement and enthusiasm among the students.

The major sports events for the day were 100m dash, 200m dash and 4×100 relay for the junior and senior categories. In between these events, we had our children from all the 4 zones to entertained us with their cultural performances. We had rhythmic yoga demonstration by the zone 3 children, karate demonstration by the zone 2 children, and energetic and enlightening fusion event by the zone 4 children- which comprised of Aerobics, Gymnastics, Pyramid formation and Drill. Last but not the least; we had a colorful dance performance by the zone 1 children.

Now coming to the most interesting and the most awaited part of the day! We had trophy distribution for the best house in March past and the trophy was won by none other than the Thrishul team. As a token of appreciation, we had given a trophy to all the in-charge teachers who had trained the students for the cultural events along with their in-charge Principals. For Yoga, we had Ms.Prema(Yoga teacher) & Mr.Masthan(Principal). For Karate we had Mr.Saravanan(Karate master) & Mr.Rathnakumaran(Principal). For the fusion event, we had Mr.Ganesh(Yoga Master), Rite stride team and Ms.Nancy(Principal) and for the dance we had Mr.Yuvraj(Choreographer) & Mrs.Sapna(Principal).

The most exciting moment of the day- the overall championship trophy, was won by the Zone 4. All the zone 4 principals were invited onto the dais and we had our chief guests give away the trophy to them. We had a really supportive set of chief guests who stayed back for the entire program and added glory to the event. Then we had the vote of thanks by Mr.Rathnakumaran(Principal-Ambattur branch).

Overall, by God’s grace, we had a fabulous event which was well organized and carried out with the help of the entire Academic and Non Academic staff. We should also thank all the parents and the students for their support, despite the bad weather; they still managed get to the stadium on time and helped us in making this event a grand success. It will be unfair if we did not mention about the anchors Mrs.Sindhuja(Principal-Vepery branch) and Mr.Dhananjayan (Vice Principal-ECR branch) and the commentators Mr.Shameer(Academic Dean-Ambattur branch) and Ms.Judith (Staff-ECR branch) who played a key role in making the event more lively and enjoyable.

Finally, we thank our management for giving us such a great chance to enjoy with all our students, looking forward for many such grand events in future!!!
